Welcome to the 12th International exhibition and conference on Rice Processing technology, Rice Tech Expo, Kolkata. the much awaited event that will be held from 12-14 November 2010, West Bengal, India. The hosting city Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal, the largest rice producing state in India. The state has been producing about 131.68 lakh tonnes of rice every year. Rice is cultivated in 18 districts of West Bengal. As per an estimation, there are more than 20,000 ricemills in the state. In this number most of them are yet to be modernised. Apart from West Bengal the neighboring state like Orissa, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Assam are also producing remarkable quantities of rice.

Throughout  history rice has been one of the most important foods for mankind. Rice is the second largest produced cereal in the world. Rice contains many valuable nutrients and vitamins essential to human growth. Almost half of the people in the world eat rice as a staple food. World wide, India stands first in rice area and second in rice production with a contribution of 21.5 per cent of global production.

India is the second largest producer of rice in the world. It accounts for 30% of world area under paddy and over 14% of world rice production. India's rice production is projected as 94 million tones in 2007-08. Kolkata, the hosting state of Rice Tech Expo, Kolkata is important Rice producing state in the country. Ricemillers in West Bengal are eagerly waiting to modernise their traditional rice milling machinery. The state have great market potential for rice processing machinery.
